In the biggest anti-counterfeit drug drive in India, Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) confiscated spurious drugs worth ₹30.77 crore during the year 2024–25. The operation, conducted under direct supervision by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, led to the cancellation of 1166 licenses and 68 arrests throughout the state.

Statewide raids and seizures

  • A total of 1039 raids were made across Uttar Pradesh.

  • 13,848 samples were seized; 96 fake and 497 substandard.

  • Seized items included oxytocin injections, narcotic drugs, and spurious cosmetic products.

Top cities with highest seizures
Lucknow, Agra, and Ghaziabad posted the highest activity.Notable seizures were:

  • ₹1.36 crore spurious medicines in Agra (5 Nov 2024)

  • ₹0.9 crore narcotics in Ghaziabad (6 Feb 2025)

  • ₹0.5 crore of spurious cosmetics in Bareilly (Apr 2025)

Widespread enforcement actions
Inspections were made at:

  • 463 drug production units

  • 647 blood banks

  • 10,462 drug retail shops

  • License of 6 production units and 5 blood banks was also cancelled.

  • Ayurvedic-Adulteration Under Surveillance

  • Enquiries are being made into 14 suspicious ayurvedic drug samples said to be adulterated with allopathic material.

Government's commitment to public safety

  • Authorities announced this as India's biggest anti-spurious drug operation, intended to safeguard public health and break up the illicit pharma chain.

  • The state is set to make such operations even more stringent in the future.
