In Tumakuru, the Tilak Nagar Circle police dismantled a drug racket operating out of a local pharmacy. Abdul Khader, the owner of AN Medicals Store on Melkote Road, and his associate, Beeresha Honnaraju, were arrested for selling prescription drugs commonly misused by addicts. During the operation, police seized 1,700 narcotic tablets valued at approximately Rs 56,000.
The investigation began with routine police patrols in Tumakuru, where officers discovered discarded syringes and empty pill packaging in areas frequented by addicts. Following the trail, authorities traced the source to Beeresha, who was selling the tablets at nearly three times their market price. The tablets, meant only for regulated use, were purchased in bulk by Khader and resold illicitly.
Police reported that users were engaging in a dangerous practice by diluting the tablets with water for intravenous use, significantly heightening the health risks. Such misuse underscores the need for pharmacy owners to maintain strict prescription checks and to be vigilant against bulk sales that could indicate misuse.
The incident serves as a crucial reminder for pharmacists to verify prescriptions carefully and report any suspicious activity to authorities. Responsible dispensing practices help ensure that medications are used safely and legally.
