Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced the upcoming launch of ‘Mudalvar Marunthagam’ (Chief Minister’s Pharmacy), a state initiative aimed at making affordable generic medicines widely available to the public. The first phase of the scheme, scheduled for January 14, 2025, coinciding with the Pongal festival, will see the opening of 1,000 pharmacy outlets across the state.
In his Independence Day speech, Stalin shared that the goal of the initiative is to ensure easy access to low-cost medicines for the people of Tamil Nadu. The government will also provide necessary credit facilities and a Rs 3 lakh subsidy to pharmacists and cooperative societies to support the implementation of the scheme.
Additionally, Stalin introduced a separate scheme, ‘Mudalvarin Kakkum Karangal,’ aimed at retired armed forces personnel. This program will offer loans of up to Rs 1 crore to help veterans start their own business ventures.
The initiative is part of a broader push to improve public healthcare and create new job opportunities, with 75,000 government openings set to be filled by January 2026.
