In a major crackdown on narcotic trafficking, Suratgarh City Police, in a joint operation with the Special Operations Group (SOG), arrested a drug smuggler on NH62 near the Locust Control Office. The suspect, identified as Narsiram Bishnoi from Bikaner district, was caught with 12,500 tablets containing Tramadol hydrochloride, a powerful painkiller often misused for recreational purposes. This is the fifth significant drug seizure by Suratgarh City Police in recent days.
The operation was carried out following a tip-off that a large consignment of narcotic tablets was being transported into the city. Police officials set up a checkpoint on the Suratgarh-Bikaner highway, where they intercepted the suspect, who attempted to escape on a bike but was quickly apprehended. Upon searching, officers found a large quantity of Tramadol tablets, which are tightly regulated under the NDPS Act due to their high potential for abuse.
The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the investigation has been handed over to the Sadar CI Krishna Kumar. Initial inquiries reveal that Narsiram obtained the narcotic tablets from a supplier in Nagaur, indicating a network operating across districts.
Police efforts in Suratgarh have intensified to combat the rising trend of drug trafficking in the area. Recent seizures include 6 grams of smack on October 27, 7 grams of smack on October 30, 29 grams of opium on November 3, and 19 kilograms of poppy seeds on November 5. These operations highlight the ongoing commitment of local authorities to dismantle smuggling networks.
