King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, is set to launch a new medicine store next week, offering medicines and surgical supplies at prices 50% to 80% lower than the market under its Hospital Revolving Fund (HRF) scheme. This initiative aims to benefit both outpatient department (OPD) patients and those undergoing treatment at the hospital, with a focus on serving approximately 7,000 to 8,000 OPD patients daily.
An earlier announcement in June revealed that outdoor patients visiting KGMU would be able to access prescribed medicines at a discount of 50% to 60%. The new medicine counter under the HRF scheme will be located in the old OPD block, and the infrastructure is nearing completion. Additionally, surgical and transplantation equipment will be available at the HRF stores.
Deputy medical superintendent, Prof Sumit Rungta, shared that KGMU has made its rate contract, and new tenders will soon be issued to ensure a further increase in the availability of medicines and equipment. The HRF has also been linked to an e-hospital system, allowing doctors and paramedical staff to easily check the availability of medicines from the ward.
Prof D Himanshu added that a dedicated counter for HIV-positive patients will be set up at the OPD to make it easier for them to access their medications.
