The Goa state cabinet has approved the release of over Rs 14 crore to Wellness Forever Medicare Pvt Ltd for the supply of emergency drugs and medicines to Goa Medical College (GMC). This decision comes after the company expressed its inability to continue supplying essential medicines due to non-payment of bills for the last six months.
The pending payment, amounting to Rs 14.7 crore, covers emergency purchases of medicines made from December 2023 to June 2024. The GMC dean explained that this stop-gap arrangement was crucial to ensure the uninterrupted availability of medicines, especially for cancer patients and the poor.
In response to the acute crisis, the dean initiated a request to the finance department for the immediate release of the dues, which was subsequently approved by the state cabinet. This clearance is expected to resolve the supply issues and ensure that emergency medical supplies continue without disruption.
