The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized large quantities of spurious Montek-LC tablets and illegally stocked medicines in separate raids conducted across Secunderabad, Sangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. The raids uncovered counterfeit drugs falsely claimed to be manufactured by a Sikkim-based pharmaceutical company, as well as unauthorized sales of antibiotics by unqualified practitioners.

DCA officials, based on intelligence inputs, conducted raids in Second Bazaar, Secunderabad.
Spurious Montek-LC tablets were detected, falsely labelled under a reputed Sikkim pharma company’s name.
The original manufacturer verified the seized batch and confirmed them as counterfeit.
Montek-LC tablets are prescribed for allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and bronchial asthma.
Raids on Quack-Run Clinics in Sangareddy & Medchal-Malkajgiri
DCA officials raided clinics in Pashamylaram Village, Patancheru, and Bowrampet Village, Medchal-Malkajgiri.
Unqualified practitioners, G. Radharukmini and Shaik Jani Basha, were illegally practicing medicine and stocking medicines without valid licenses.
Large quantities of antibiotics like Ceftriaxone, Cefixime, and Cefpodoxime, along with anti-ulcer and analgesic drugs, were seized.
Officials warned that indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified persons could contribute to antimicrobial resistance.
Seizure of Misleading Ayurvedic Medicine in Ramachandrapuram
In a separate raid, DCA confiscated ‘Nagakesaramulu Choornam’ from Kanukunta Village.
The product was falsely advertised as a treatment for sterility, violating drug advertising norms.

VB Kamalasan Reddy, Director-General, DCA, confirmed the spurious nature of the Montek-LC tablets and emphasized the importance of regulatory vigilance to prevent counterfeit medicines from reaching the public.
Officials also reiterated the dangers posed by unqualified medical practitioners dispensing antibiotics without valid prescriptions.The DCA will continue intensified inspections and strict action against the illegal distribution of spurious drugs and unauthorized medical practices in Telangana. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug sales or quack practitioners to ensure public safety and reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance.
