In a recent crackdown on drug trafficking, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s cybercrime department intercepted a private bus and arrested three individuals suspected of smuggling banned psychotropic drugs intended for illegal sale in the city. Acting on a tip-off, the cybercrime team seized 1,700 restricted pills and other narcotics, including Nitrazepam tablets, Codeine Phosphate, and Triprolidine cough syrup. The authorities also confiscated a firearm and sharp weapons, indicating potential ties to organized crime.
The arrested suspects—Sheikh Akbar Sheikh Salim (23), Sayyed Salman Sayyed Saud (27), and Majid Beg Yunus Beg (24)—are all local residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. According to police sources, the suspects had sourced these banned substances from Surat, Gujarat, intending to distribute them among addicts in the area.
The interception took place on Tuesday at Nagar naka after coordinated efforts by multiple police teams. Cybercrime inspector Shivcharan Pandhare, who led the operation, stated that authorities are investigating the drug supply chain, which they suspect leads back to Gujarat. The goal is to dismantle the entire illegal network behind this trafficking.
The suspects are now in custody and face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as law enforcement continues to monitor and prevent drug distribution networks in the region.
