In a renewed crackdown on fake medicines, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized counterfeit versions of the widely used cholesterol-lowering tablets Rosuvas F 20 and Rosuvas F 10 from pharma distributors in Hyderabad. These drugs were falsely labeled as products of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, raising serious concerns about public safety.
Key highlights
Raids in Hyderabad
DCA officials conducted targeted raids on June 19 at Ganga Pharma Distributors and Sree Nandini Pharma in Inderbagh, Koti.
Fake batches of Rosuvas tablets, worth ₹3 lakh, were seized during the operation.
Confirmed counterfeit
Sun Pharma officially verified that the seized Rosuvas F 20 and F 10 tablets were not genuine and were not manufactured by their Sikkim facility.
The counterfeit drugs contained rosuvastatin and fenofibrate, typically prescribed to manage cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Repeat offenders
This is the second incident this year involving counterfeit Sun Pharma products in Hyderabad.
In January 2025, DCA also seized Telma H (Glenmark), Monocef-O 200 (Aristo), and Chymoral Forte (Torrent) from a local wholesaler.
Previous crackdowns
Telangana DCA had earlier busted a fake anti-cancer drug racket in Machabollaram.
Investigations had revealed that counterfeit drugs were smuggled using courier services from Uttarakhand and Ghaziabad into Telangana.
Public advisory issued
DCA Director General Dr. Shawnavaz Quazim has issued a public health advisory, warning citizens against counterfeit medications.
He emphasized that such fake drugs fail to treat diseases and may lead to dangerous health complications.
The Telangana DCA's consistent efforts to eliminate counterfeit drugs from the market highlight the growing need for vigilant enforcement and pharmacy-level authentication. Patients are urged to verify medicines, purchase only from licensed outlets, and report any suspicious products to the authorities.
