The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized counterfeit stocks of cholesterol-lowering drugs worth ₹3 lakh in Hyderabad’s Koti market area, raising fresh concerns about fake medicines circulating under top pharma brands.
Key highlights
Spurious heart medication found
The DCA’s special enforcement team raided Ganga Pharma Distributors and Sri Nandini Pharma.
They seized fake batches of Rosuvas F 20 and Rosuvas F 10, both popular cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Fake drugs misusing Sun Pharma label
The counterfeit medicines falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd’s Sikkim unit, with manufacturing and expiry dates marked as December 2024 and May 2027.
Upon verification, Sun Pharma confirmed the seized products were not manufactured by them.
Drugs meant for heart patients
Rosuvas F is typically prescribed to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels to prevent cardiovascular complications.
Circulation of such counterfeit drugs poses a serious public health risk, especially for cardiac patients relying on these prescriptions.
Legal action and ongoing investigation
Authorities are tracing the entire supply chain of the fake drugs.
Legal action is expected against all those involved in the procurement and distribution of the counterfeit stock.
The seizure is part of Telangana DCA’s ongoing crackdown against counterfeit medicines, particularly those targeting chronic lifestyle conditions like heart disease. Patients are advised to remain vigilant and procure medicines only from verified sources to avoid life-threatening consequences.
