Quick commerce platform Blinkit has launched prescription drug deliveries in select Bengaluru areas, promising 10–30 minute delivery windows. This service, which includes antibiotics, diabetes medications, and skin treatments, marks Blinkit's deeper entry into healthcare logistics. It builds on the company’s prior OTC offerings and coincides with its rollout of a 10-minute ambulance service. However, sourcing details and regulatory clarity around the prescription drug model remain pending.
Key highlights
Prescription drugs now delivered within 10–30 minutes
Service live in select Bengaluru pincodes, covering eye drops, antihistamines, diabetes meds, and neuro/derma drugs.
Adds to existing OTC pharmacy offerings already live on Blinkit’s platform.
Supply chain and fulfillment sources not publicly disclosed yet.
Part of Blinkit’s expanding healthcare push
Comes alongside Blinkit's 10-minute ambulance service in Gurugram.
Company plans in-house paramedic training and expansion of emergency care network.
Pilot aligns with Eternal’s strategy to diversify beyond food delivery.
India’s e-pharmacy competition heating up
PhonePe’s Pincode and Davaindia offer 10–60 minute medicine deliveries in top metros.
Swiggy partnered with PharmEasy; Zeelab running 1-hour delivery in Delhi-NCR.
Crisil estimates India’s e-pharmacy share at just 3–5% of the ₹2.4 lakh crore pharma retail market.
Regulatory uncertainty still looms
India lacks clear e-pharmacy legislation; new laws under preparation.
Draft rules and industry petitions remain under government review.
No specific framework yet to regulate instant prescription drug delivery.
Blinkit’s prescription drug pilot may redefine convenience in pharma delivery, but it also tests the boundaries of current regulation. As multiple players race to dominate hyperlocal medicine logistics, clear compliance frameworks will be critical. For now, Blinkit’s bold entry into healthcare could reshape quick commerce if it stays aligned with the law.
