A clinic located in Raissar village in Barnala in Punjab has been sealed by the health department as it allegedly sold spurious Ayurvedic medicines. A case has been lodged against the operator Jaspreet Singh, who is on the run. This action was undertaken after samples gathered last year had failed laboratory checks.
Key Highlights:
Unregistered Operation Exposed
The clinic, Rehmat Dawakhana, was operating illegally without a license.
Operator Jaspreet Singh was filling medicines at home and selling them on social media.
Medicines Sold for Male Potency
The operator was accused of selling harmful formulae claimed to improve the sexual health of males.
The health department had also received complaints of locals against the side effects of such medicines.
Samples Failed Quality Tests
On 12 December 2024, the health department picked up three samples of medicines, which subsequently tested bad quality.
According to the laboratory reports, the clinic was sealed and legal action was taken.
Action Verified by Health Authorities
The action was verified by District Medical Officer Dr. Aman Kaushal, who said:
"The operator was never authorized to produce or deal in medicines. All samples tested bad, verifying the risk to public health."This episode is yet another testament to the increasing menace of unregistered traditional medicine shops. The swift response of the Punjab Health Department is evidence of an increasing resolve to plug the circulation of fake and harmful drugs, particularly those preying on vulnerable groups under false health claims. The authorities are still hunting for the absconding operator and have alerted citizens to buy medicines only from registered medical shops.
