The Andhra Pradesh police, along with Vigilance and Enforcement teams and the Drug Control Administration (DCA), have intensified their raids on medical stores across the state. Over two days of operations, 125 cases have been registered against pharmacies found illegally stocking narcotic drugs, raising serious concerns about drug misuse and regulatory violations.
Key Highlights
Major Seizure from Krishna District Medical Store
Bhargava Medical Stores, Avanigadda, owned by Konakalla Ramamohan, booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Seizure included:
55,961 tablets of an opioid medicine.
10,000 tablets of tranquilizer drugs.
2,794 injections.
Drugs found both at the medical store and the owner’s residence.
Statewide Action
Total 125 cases registered across Andhra Pradesh against medical stores violating drug control laws.
Shops lacked proper stock and sale records, raising suspicion of unregulated narcotic drug sales.
Investigations underway to trace the bulk suppliers and buyers involved.
Statements from Officials
IGP and Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) Head, Ake Ravi Krishna, stated: “The shop owner sold a huge quantity of narcotic drugs over the past two years. The accused was not maintaining any stock and sale registers. Instructions have been given to find the supplier who sold these narcotic drugs in bulk.”
He also confirmed the owner of Bhargava Medical Stores will be arrested and produced before the court.
Authorities are focusing on identifying the end-users and suppliers of the narcotic drugs. The Andhra police have pledged to continue stringent checks on medical stores, ensuring stricter enforcement of the NDPS Act to prevent illegal distribution of controlled substances.
