Philips and Medtronic have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in India, which is a strategic initiative to boost medical skills in structural heart imaging. The partnership will see more than 300 cardiologists and radiologists trained on cutting-edge imaging methods, specifically for treating patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Multi-Modality Imaging Training for Physicians
The course of study will be on echocardiography (echo) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Training workshops will include didactic lectures and hands-on training on Philips' ultrasound and MRI platforms.
15 specialty medical institutions shall be the training centers.
Expert-Led Educational Workshops
The sessions shall be held under the mentorship of leading Indian and international experts.
The aim is to enhance diagnosis accuracy and patient outcome, especially for TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) procedures.
Philips' AI-Driven Imaging Solutions for Safer Diagnostics
Philips' AI-based imaging software assists in analyzing aortic anatomy through 3D transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and MRI.
The method dispenses with the use of contrast agents, minimizing risks of kidney damage in ESRD patients.
Medtronic's Ongoing Innovation in Heart Valve Replacement
Medtronic recently marked 20 years of TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), a milestone in minimally invasive cardiovascular therapy.
Philips has introduced various TAVR systems in India, transforming procedures for heart valve replacement.
Easing India's Growing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Burden
India has 2.2 lakh new cases of ESRD each year.
Research estimates 9.5% of Aortic Stenosis ESRD patients can be assisted with advanced imaging during TAVR.
Leader Statements:
Bharath Sesha, Managing Director, Philips Indian Subcontinent:
This collaboration with Medtronic is a move towards consolidating structural heart imaging in India. Our emphasis is on ongoing learning, allowing clinicians to utilize AI-based imaging solutions to enhance patient care."
Mandeep Singh Kumar, Managing Director and VP, Medtronic India:
"This collaboration will provide healthcare professionals with specialized training, and this will improve the accuracy of TAVI procedures. Our aim is to enhance clinical skills and eventually boost patient outcomes in India."
With the help of advanced imaging technology and AI-based diagnostics, Philips and Medtronic seek to transform cardiovascular care in India. The initiative not only aims to upskill clinicians but also enhance treatment accuracy for structural heart disease, particularly among ESRD patients.
