The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided Srinivasa Medical and General Stores in Karimnagar and seized drugs valued at Rs 4.87 lakh that were illegally stocked for sale. The medications, labeled “ESI SUPPLY NOT FOR SALE,” were intended for ESI hospital use and included antidiabetic and antiasthmatic drugs.
The raid was conducted by a team led by assistant director M Srinivasulu, along with drug inspectors from various districts. The investigation revealed that Dunaboina Murali Rao, a pharmacist at the ESI dispensary in Sirpur-Kagaznagar, had diverted the hospital supplies to Gampa Krishna, the managing partner of Sri Srinivasa Medical and General Stores.
The DCA has taken samples for further analysis, and legal action will be taken under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Government pharmacists involved in such illegal activities could face imprisonment of up to two years.
