Drugs Control Administration Raids Telangana Over Nutraceutical Violations and Unlicensed Medical Shops

Telangana DCA launched two high-profile raids on January 3, 2025. One was against the production and sale of medicines in the garb of nutraceuticals. The other was against the sales of drugs by the unlicensed medical shops, which were selling drugs without proper permissions.
Raid 1: Falsely Manufactured Nutraceuticals
Area: Kothapet Village, Uppal Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District.
Product Seized: Alcium-D3 Tablets (Calcium with Vitamin D3 Tablets).
Manufacturer: Hindustan Nutraceuticals Inc., Uppal, operating under an FSSAI license (FSSAI. Lic. No. 10017047000796).
Offence:
The product was manufactured as a drug under a food license.
₹1.5 lakhs worth of drugs were seized.These products were not manufactured under a valid drug license and did not meet the IP and GMP quality standards. Dr. B. Lakshmi Narayana and Smt. G. Indira Priyadarshini, Drugs Inspectors, headed the operation led by Sri. G. Sreenivas, Assistant Director.
2. Unlicensed Medical Shop Raid 2
Address: Allapur, Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri District.
Owner: Sarangi Naga Shiva.
Confiscated Stocks: There were 59 types of medicines that comprised anti-biotics, analgesics, anti-diabetics, and anti-hypertensives worth ₹30,000.
Default: The shop had no valid license to sell drugs. Thus, its show cause became liable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act
This raid is led by Drugs Inspectors Smt. N. Sahaja, Sri. E. Naresh Reddy, and Dr. R. Geethanjali under Sri. G. Sreenivas and Sri. T. Rajamouli, IG.
Legal Consequences:
Manufacturing and sale of drugs without a valid licence invites imprisonment for up to five years. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act also requires stern measures against wholesalers supplying medicines to such unlicensed organizations.Public Awareness
The DCA encourages citizens to report suspected illegal manufacturing and sales of medicines. Complaints can be made by dialing the free telephone number: 1800-599-6969, operating on all working days between 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
