Undoubtedly, the covid-19 virus hit us a while ago, but, the new variant has caused a sudden spike in the number of cases daily. Individuals from all age groups are prone to this dreadful virus and if necessary precautions are not followed by you or by anyone near you, there is a high chance of contracting the disease.

This infection directly targets your immune system which in turn gives you a tough time to recover and even after you fight it, there is a lot to do to get back the lost strength. Whether you or someone you know contracted the virus and the symptoms were bad, your sole focus would have been resting, hydrating, and monitoring your symptoms. But, now, post-recovery, what does the “new normal” look like?

How long will I be contagious? Should I be worried about these lingering symptoms? Are all the symptoms normal? Am I immune to the virus? Does this mean I don’t have to wear a mask anymore?

Why post-covid-care?

As mentioned earlier, the coronavirus can damage your body severely. If your infection was moderate to severe, the virus damages your respiratory system. The body becomes weak after having battled the dangerous virus for so many days. You may feel drained and lethargic, which is quite natural. This is exactly why you need to shower yourself with a lot of care. Here is how!

  • Continue with the rest

Give yourself a week of complete rest after recovery. A well-rested body can focus on healing. Eat right, get enough sleep because when you eat right and sleep well, your body speeds up the recovery procedure. Refrain from resuming your old lifestyle right away. Too much work, stress, and anxiety will make you ill and cause additional strain.

  • Add on some nutrition

A good diet is one of the surest ways to recover. Consuming nutrients your body has lost is good for your overall well-being. Eat fresh fruits, legumes, beans, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains to bring back all the lost nutrients and strengthen your immunity once again. Side by side keeps sipping on water and complete 2 liters a day. Make sure you cut intake on salt, sugar, oil, and fat. Eat home-cooked food.

Exercising may sound unappealing, but it is essential for a speedy recovery. Working out improves blood and oxygen circulation. It helps to detoxify your body. Going through memory and concentration issues after recovering from this virus is common, so make sure that you just don’t get discouraged. Give yourself some time as your post-Covid care at home will take you back to your old self gradually. Take things one step at a time.

  • Calm yourself down

Restlessness can occur during the daily routine, and getting back to the mind and body before this illness will take some time. It is best to give yourself some time to heal and practice meditation or yoga or simple breathing exercises, daily.

  • Ensure having a healthy sleep routine

Our sleep is regulated as per the circadian rhythm and our mood affects this too. Thus, it is important to sleep peacefully and maintain a proper sleep-week cycle with less disturbance to ensure good health and develop antibodies.

  • Check your blood oxygen level

Continue to monitor your blood oxygen saturation level with your oximeter. Even if you have recovered from COVID, there could be lung damage that you don’t know of. If so, your oxygen level will fluctuate and dip below 90. You will need to visit the doctor.

  • Watch out for any other symptoms

A pretty long list of symptoms like fever, dry cough, and shortness of breath are the first signs. Both the severity and duration of these symptoms vary from person to person, but some symptoms are more likely to last well into your recovery period. Some symptoms of COVID-19 linger longer than others like fatigue and loss of taste and smell can persist beyond the period of contagion. However, if you face anything alarming, visit the doctor immediately.

  • Don’t forget the precautionary measures

Keep in mind that even after recovering from COVID-19, you must continue to practice the preventive measures that protect yourself and others from the virus, including social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing your hands regularly.
