This “World Doctor Day”, let’s understand how we can help our doctors give us better care! Health is not affected solely due to foreign bacteria entering your body, it is also influenced by your environment and social circle. It is important to provide your doctor with this relevant information and to do your part in improving the health sector, through greater awareness, information sharing, etc.

1. Identify everyday risks in your home, workplace, school, community, or society.

Categorize the locations you visit, understand the potential health concerns in these environments, and then identify healthy alternatives. For example, faulty wiring, water leaks, too many carbohydrate-rich foods, unhealthy meals, lesser greenery, shorter breaks in school, unfair barriers or burdens, and poor public health policies in society.

2. Know your doctor

Pharmaceutical companies spend millions in marketing the importance of asking your doctors about “brand-name products they have seen advertised”. This influences the process of prescribing. However, we can use this to our advantage by informing the doctor about your lifestyle for a wholesome diagnosis. A good doctor will not be biased towards any brand.

3. Share information about you and your community with your doctor.

A greater percentage of people have started downloading apps and donning wearable sensors which allow them to collect data on aspects of their daily lives. This presents a new and exciting opportunity of discovering patterns of your individual health as well as the community, allowing a doctor to interpret the data and understand the common problems and how to eradicate those health problems.

4. Importance Of Follow-Up Visits

Follow-up visits allow doctors to go over medical changes in a timely fashion and ensure that the patient’s health is in check while eradicating the chances of further complications. Follow-up care also plays well on the patient’s psyche and helps them feel safer and reduces stress, thus positively affecting their health and recovery.

5. Vote To Ensure Good Health

Most of the highest-scoring clinics seem to offer better service as they employ people who wish to understand and improve health in a social context, which means that the doctor may figure out that your migraine is caused by the mold in your house instead of making you unnecessarily consume painkillers. If you believe that your clinic, hospital, or doctor offers you such service, recommend it to your friends and family.
