The covid-19 pandemic has taken a swirl turning everything around. It has changed the way we work, study, or socialize drastically. Wearing masks, sanitizing and washing your hands, maintaining social distancing, staying home is what one can do. With phase two running around, it is important to take precautions and be safe

The virus around is dangerous and contracting it is adverse. A lot of patients go in for self-caring quarantine or prefer taking the same route for their loved ones. So, here is the perfect self home care guide curated for you and the care of your loved ones!

Basic tips for covid-19

  • Monitor your symptoms

COVID-19 symptoms include fever, cough, or loss of taste and smell among others. The new variant symptoms are sore throat, aches, pains, chest pain, etc. Ensure you keep a check on your symptoms and then opt-in for the following treatment assisted by your medical professional.

  • Stay home

Stay home from work, school, and public areas unless it’s to get medical care. Refrain from using public transportation, ride-sharing services, or taxis.

  • Take proper medical care

Get rest and stay hydrated. Take over-the-counter medicines, or vitamin C supplements, to help you feel better.

  • Keep in touch with your doctor

Call before you get medical care. Be sure to get care if you have trouble breathing, or have any other emergency warning signs.

  • Separate yourself from other people

Stay isolated in one room, away from your family and other people, as much as possible. This includes eating in your room. Open windows to keep air circulating. Use a separate bathroom, if possible, too.

  • Put on your mask or gloves

The mask helps prevent a person who is sick from spreading the virus to others. It keeps respiratory droplets contained and from reaching other people.

  • Wash your hands often

Make sure you wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds now and then. It is most important to do so after touching objects, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.

Proning for covid-19 patients

Recently, The health ministry has issued a guideline on proning for self-care for Covid-19 patients at home. Let’s know more about it!

What is proning?

Lying down face down on your stomach is what it is. This position is medically accepted to improve the oxygenation and comfort if the oxygen level of a patient drops below 94. At home, a patient can carry out this as it improves ventilation by keeping the alveolar units open.

How to carry out proning?

  • You will need 4–5 pillows to do so.

  • Place one beneath your neck.

  • Place one or two below your chest through the upper thighs.

  • The last two pillows can be placed below the shins.

  • Make sure you change your lying position every 30 minutes.

  • Start with lying on your belly first then changing to the sides and then sitting up before going back to your first position.

Tips to take care of while proning

  • Not to be done for an hour after meals.

  • Do not push yourself beyond comfort.

  • One may be prone for up to 16 hours a day, in multiple cycles.

  • Keep track of any pressure or injuries during proning.

With these home care tips, you can triumph against covid-19 effectively. However, make sure you seek medical assistance before isolating yourself. It is important to seek medical care, too. This time is tough, but, so are we!!
