Trying to give up on the late-night snacking? Struggling to start your fitness journey? Left the fitness journey halfway through? With so many things weighing you down it gets hard to keep up with the motivation. So here is the weight loss journey of Ankush to boost you to kickstart your fitness journey.

Hey, tell us something about yourself, and what triggered you to start a weight loss journey?
My name is Ankush Sharma. I am 32 and I work for an MNC. My weight loss journey started 7–8 years ago. The one day that I woke up and didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. I realized that my not-so-good lifestyle, including a couple of vices, is taking a toll on my body and appearance. That’s when I decided to make a change.

How did you get started? I started was small. I gave up smoking cold turkey, quit alcohol, and stopped junk food completely. I made a 3-month plan which included basic practices like walking, skipping rope, and watching what I eat.

Committing to a routine is overwhelming. Did you set any goals at the start of your weight loss journey?

Yes, I had set up small goals like walking 5 km for the 1st week; and increased it gradually. I followed a basic progressive overload formula. As I started to step up to 10 km in under 45 minutes, I decided to join a gym and work out more. I focussed on the basics like diet and supplements.

How often do you work out? Do you have any favorite exercise routines?

I work out at least five days a week, and my favorite exercise is deadlift because it works on my entire body. I have focussed on full-body workouts over the years, and they work like a charm.

How much time does it take to get used to the new workout and eating patterns?

When I started working out, my body was sore for at least 1 to 2 weeks. Eventually, my body got used to it. My diet is pretty simple. I make sure to count my calories every day. I eat one meal of my choice once a week. It helps me keep focused on my workout and diet.

How did Ankush resist the temptation of his favorite food? What changes did this journey bring into his life? Discover a lot more in the second part of the interview.
