The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized falsely made RedFer-XT tablets in Ramagundam, Peddapalli district, which were illegally marketed as food products and nutraceuticals. The raids revealed that the products, made by Br Nutracare and marketed by Dr Sri Reddy's Lab, were made in false pretenses under an FSSAI license instead of a drug license under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Key Highlights:
Illegal Manufacturing and Marketing:

  • RedFer-XT tablets were falsely made under an FSSAI license and marketed as nutraceuticals.

  • The products were made by Br Nutracare at Bandlaguda and marketed by Dr Sri Reddy's Lab in Nagole village.

Violation of Drug Regulations:

  • The label composition renders RedFer-XT a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

  • The products should be made under a drug license under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as given in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules.

  • The product should meet the quality standards as given in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).

Separate Raid on Misleading Advertisements:
The DCA in another raid confiscated Sodium Phosphates Enema BP, an allopathic medicine, in Kaghaznagar, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, for misleading advertisements for the cure of convulsions.

Quotes from Officials:
VB Kamalasan Reddy, Director-General, Telangana DCA:
"The DCA is serious about preventing the manufacture of false drugs and misleading advertisements to keep the public safe and healthy. Products like RedFer-XT must strictly comply with the provisions in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act."The prompt action of the DCA against illegal manufacture and sale of drugs reinforces the importance of abiding by the rules in the drug sector. The seizures indicate the ongoing efforts to protect consumers from unsafe and misleading products. The Telangana DCA will monitor closely and act against manufacturers and marketers violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act to ensure products available in the market are safe and effective.
