In a shocking case of medical negligence, five pregnant women in Sanjay Gandhi Medical College, Rewa, lost their memory after being given a banned injection manufactured by a blacklisted Gujarat-based pharma company, Radiant Parenterals Limited.
Key Highlights
Banned Injection Given in Rewa Medical College
These women were administered an anaesthetic injection by Radiant Parenterals Limited, who themselves were already blacklisted and had been debarred from availing government contracts.
The women were administered an injection previously in October 2024 that created a safety issue, for Vidisha Medical College.
Pharmaceutical Company Penalized
The company, Radiant Parenterals, has been debarred for five years and blacklisted for two years from availing government contracts.
A fine amount of ₹3.01 lakh was imposed.
Hospital Negligence Uncovered
Hospital storekeeper Praveen Upadhyay incorrectly issued the banned injection.
Though the drug was barred on the procurement platform, 100 vials were released on February 25, out of which 70 were confiscated, and the remaining 30 are missing.
The storekeeper has been suspended, but no action against other responsible hospital officials has been taken.
Poor Medicine Storage Practice Exposed Through Investigation
Temperature records were not kept.
Stock was not properly managed.
Substandard and expired drugs were kept with approved ones.
The incident brings to the fore glaring loopholes in hospital stock control and regulatory monitoring. In spite of earlier warnings, use of a banned drug has resulted in serious health repercussions. Immediate corrective measures and strict accountability are needed to avoid such failures in the future.
