Joint inspection by the local police and the Drugs Control Office resulted in the impounding of banned pregabalin capsules valued at ₹1.25 lakh from a chemist shop at Chhehharta, Amritsar. The move followed defiance of orders of the District Magistrate that had banned sale and storage of pregabalin-based drugs within the district since January 7, 2025.
Key Highlights
Seizure Details
The raid was carried out at Vicky Medical Store belonging to Vikramjit Singh.
4,500 capsules of five various types carrying pregabalin 300 mg were seized by officials.
The shop owner was unable to show valid purchase bills and required documents despite being allowed enough time.
Legal Violations & Actions Taken
Drugs Control Officer Sukhdeep Singh verified the seizure on grounds of non-compliance.
Confiscation was carried out under Section 223 of the BNS that provides for punishment regarding sale and stockpiling of illegal drugs.
The District Magistrate had prohibited sales of pregabalin in the area out of fear of abuse and addiction.
The seizure reinforces the continued activities of regulatory officials to stem unauthorized sales of risk-prone medications. Since pregabalin has been strictly regulated for its abuse potential, regulators have strengthened harsh action against retailers who fail to comply in an effort to end illegal distribution.
