The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has introduced a new Standard Input Output Norm (SION) for the export of doxycycline 100 mg dispersible tablets, under the Chemical and Allied Products category (Product Code ‘A’). The move aims to streamline pharmaceutical exports and provide clarity for manufacturers.
Key Highlights
DGFT Notification Under FTP 2023
The new SION entry was notified under powers granted by Paragraph 1.03 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023.
The notification introduces SION entry A-3685 for doxycycline 100 mg dispersible tablets.
Export Product Specification
The SION applies to the export of “Doxycycline 100 mg dispersible tablets (equivalent to Anhydrous Doxycycline 100 mg)”.
Export quantity is specified as one tablet per unit.
Input Material and Quantity
The permissible input is doxycycline monohydrate USP/BP.
Input quantity allowed is 106.13 mg per tablet of doxycycline dispersible formulation.
Duty-Free Import Facilitation
The new norm enables duty-free import of raw material (doxycycline monohydrate) against export obligations.
Input material must conform to US Pharmacopoeia (USP) or British Pharmacopoeia (BP) standards.
Impact on Exporters
The notification standardizes material requirements and simplifies procedural aspects.
It is expected to benefit Indian exporters of antibiotic formulations by enhancing global competitiveness.
With the growing international demand for affordable antibiotics, the DGFT’s new SION for doxycycline dispersible tablets strengthens India’s role as a key pharmaceutical exporter. By defining clear norms under FTP 2023, the Centre aims to facilitate smoother trade processes and bolster the export performance of Indian pharma companies.
